Spain Condemns Gaza Bloodshed, Pledges to End ‘Massacre’
"One year after recognizing Palestine as a state, the pain in Gaza is unbearable," Sanchez posted on X.
He stressed that Spain remains steadfast in urging an end to what he called the "massacre the world is witnessing today."
Spain officially recognized Palestine as a sovereign state in May 2024—an action Sanchez deemed vital for promoting peace in the Middle East and upholding the two-state solution.
The Spanish government has consistently denounced the soaring civilian casualties in Gaza and has called on Israel to adhere to international humanitarian law.
Since October 2023, Israel has waged an intense military campaign in Gaza, defying global appeals for a ceasefire. The offensive has resulted in the deaths of over 54,000 Palestinians, the majority of whom are women and children.
In a landmark move last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, accusing them of war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
Simultaneously, Israel is facing a genocide case at the International Court of Justice over its actions targeting civilians in the besieged enclave.
